Postnatal Care Services
When you're pregnant it can be easy to focus on the birth and not think about what happens afterwards. It's important to realise that you need to be cared for after you have a baby! Other cultures have a sacred postpartum period where the mother is looked after and given space to bond with her baby and physically heal. In our busy society this tends not to happen, to the detriment of mothers and their newborns. I can nurture you and your baby, giving you time and space to ease yourself into motherhood.
Sacred 40 Days Postpartum
What happens when you leave the hospital or birth centre with your newborn? You may be sore, tired, a bit wobbly on your feet, and overwhelmed with this whole new person to care for! Many cultures practice a sacred postpartum period of around 40 days for the new mother to recover, adjust to motherhood and bond with her baby.
I offer a package of three weekly visits of three hours each for the first six weeks, making a total of 54 hours postnatal support.

"...pretty much everyone experiences how the first forty days are inherently imperfect, rife with confusing and clumsy moments, dotted with messy and awkward parts, and sometimes even streaked with melancholy. If you can create space for all the ups and downs, including challenging feelings, and if you can do just a few small things to take good care of yourself during this time, you can help to create the conditions recommended by the wise old ones. You can enjoy a safe, supportive, healing enviroment that benefits mother and baby today and in the future, and practice staying connected to yourself even while taking care of another. The transition into motherhood - or motherhood again - is an incredibly important time of your life, and there is always an opportunity to bring sacredness into the experience of caring for a new baby."

I can tend to your baby so you can shower, sleep, or just have some time to yourself. I bring homemade aromatherapy products with me, including bath salts, herbal foot baths and nursing salve. Imagine lying in a soothing aromatherapy bath and looking forward to a foot massage afterwards....
I can bring homemade food, empty your dishwasher, put a washing on - the small things that suddenly become overwhelming when you're caring for a new baby!
This is booked in blocks of 10 hours, to be used in sessions of two hours (minimum) at a time.
Investment: £175 for a 10 hour block, invoiced in advance.
"I found Helena to be very helpful and supportive throughout labour, as well as being supportive before and after. During labour she helped me make decisions about interventions and pain relief by asking questions that would help me make up my own mind without pressuring me to any particular decision. She also had good suggestions for positions and things my husband could do to help (e.g. pushing on my lower back during a contraction)."
